The India Association at Missouri S&T invites the campus and community to attend the 2018 Diwali Festival of Lights event on Sunday, Oct. 28.

The celebration will begin with a cultural show at 4 p.m. in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, located at 10th and Main streets. The show will include a variety of dance and musical performances by S&T students. After the performances, a fireworks display and Indian dinner will take place at the Havener Center at 6:15 p.m. All of these festivities are provided courtesy of the Indian student community in Rolla.

Tickets for Diwali 2018 will be available via email at india@mst.edu and at ticket counters in both the library and the Havener Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, Oct. 10-26. Three types of tickets will be offered, including dinner tickets for $10, general tickets — which include both the show and dinner — for $15 and VIP tickets for $20. VIP tickets will include all elements of the general admission as well as preferred seating for the cultural show and a reduced wait time for dinner.

Diwali, one of India’s most vibrant festivals, is popularly known as the Festival of Lights and represents the triumph of good over evil. The word Diwali is derived from the Sanskrit word “Deepavali,” which means “row of lamps.”

More than 100 students are involved in producing Missouri S&T’s Diwali celebration and 800 to 1,000 people attend each year.
