Missouri S&T will host a floating lantern release as part of celebrations for International Day of Peace this Friday.
The event will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Ber Juan Park’s lake, which is at the park’s southern border near 10th Street in Rolla. This year’s International Day of Peace theme is the right to peace – the universal declaration of human rights.
“International Day of Peace really aligns with our mission to promote a culture of caring on campus and in the local community,” says Cady Holmes-Muskovin, interim director of equity and Title IX at Missouri S&T. “We hope to include as many community members as possible in the lantern release and help spread the word about the need for equity.”
Participants are invited to decorate a lantern prior to the event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, and Thursday, Sept. 20, in the Havener Center on the Missouri S&T campus. Decorating is free and open to the public.
The celebrations are sponsored by Missouri S&T’s student diversity initiatives and equity and Title IX departments.
