Area community members can apply to present ideas at a TEDx event on the Missouri S&T campus this coming spring.
Missouri S&T will host TEDxMissouriS&T on Thursday, April 11, 2019, in Leach Theatre, and its organizing committee is looking for presenters. Anyone with a topic relating to the theme “Overlooked” can apply to speak at the event. The deadline to submit an application is Thursday, Nov. 1.
“The 2019 theme challenges presenters to think about what they see that has been hidden to others and how noticing these unique or small details has changed their perspective,” says Tara Stone, a user interface designer in marketing and communications at S&T and a member of the TEDx organizing committee. “We want a lot of community involvement and encourage anyone with a story to apply.”
Applications can be made online at tedxmst.com. Applicants must summarize their proposed topic and explain why it is worth sharing, what they hope to gain and how it connects to the overall theme of the event.
Organizers are also seeking sponsors and partners for the 2019 event. Products and services are accepted in lieu of monetary donations. Donors will be recognized at various levels and will receive a specified number of tickets to the event. To sponsor the event, visit tedxmst.com/sponsorships.
TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading” that shares media and supports educational initiatives.
At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x means it is an independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. All presentations are recorded and shared through TEDx media.
Ticket information for TEDxMissouriS&T will be shared closer to the date of the event. Keep informed of updated information by “liking” the TEDxMissouriS&T Facebook page.
Hello Peter, Do you ever have guest speakers from around the world, like Sydney Australia?
Promise you’ll love what I have to share.

As a huge TED fan; I am interested in giving a TEDx talk. Please tell me how to proceed.
I have two ideas…Overlooked: The Gifted Student
and Why We Chose To Medicate Our Children, which is based on a book in progress.
Thank you, very much.
