The Missouri S&T community will welcome new and returning students to campus during its 8th annual MinerRama. The free event, hosted by the student life department, kicks off at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Puck and runs until 2 p.m. The yearly event brings together nearly 200 student organizations and campus programs to showcase ways students can become involved.
“It’s the perfect way to learn about S&T’s registered student organizations and S&T programs,” says student services advisor Tina Reagan, who coordinates the event. “You can meet current student leaders and find the involvement opportunities that match your interests. You’ll see groups as varied as the Amateur Radio Club, Spanish Club, Riders’ Society, and the Aikido Club.”
Interim Chancellor Chris Maples and members of the leadership team will serve free ice cream treats from a tent near the Puck from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
“I’m looking forward to getting the chance to visit with students, faculty and staff,” Maples says. “I invite everyone to stop by our tent to enjoy a cool treat, meet a few new people and have a good time. It’s going to be fun.”
Several design teams from the university’s Student Design and Experiential Learning Center will also be there to show off their hard work and recruit new team members.
“Experiential learning is at the core of a strong Missouri S&T education,” says Dr. Chris Ramsay, director of the SDELC. “Students from all disciplines are encouraged to considering joining a design team. There’s no restriction on the age or major – just a willingness to learn!”
Student organizations wishing to participate in MinerRama are required to register online by Wednesday, Aug. 23.
