Furlong named director of S&T library

John T. Furlong, senior manager of library and instructional resources at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley, has been named director of library and learning resources at Missouri S&T’s Curtis Laws Wilson Library. His appointment will begin Monday, Sept. 11.

Furlong takes over for Maggie Trish, librarian and assistant director for library technical services, who was appointed interim director June 1 following former director Tracy Primich’s retirement.

Furlong has served as senior manager of library and instructional resources at St. Louis Community College since 2010. He also has been serving as interim manager of the college’s academic support center since August 2016 and has taught classes on information literacy and in the information systems department as an adjunct faculty instructor since 2014.

Prior to joining St. Louis Community College, Furlong served as director of Brentwood Public Library in Brentwood, Missouri, for 11 years. His experience also includes working as a software specialist for Data Research Associates, Baden branch manager for St. Louis Public Library and associate archivist for the Missouri History Museum, all in St. Louis.

Furlong is a member of the Missouri Library Association and the American Library Association (ALA) as well as the ALA’s Library Leadership and Management Association and the International Relations Round-Table.

Furlong earned a master of library and information science degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a bachelor of arts degree in history from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.
