The Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) at Missouri University of Science and Technology will host a celebration in honor of the Chinese Spring Festival later this month.
The Chinese Spring Festival will take place at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, and will begin with a cultural show in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall. After the show a dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. in St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center.
Tickets are $8 for the dinner, and $8 for the cultural show, or $12 if purchased together. Tickets can be purchased through the Leach Theatre Box Office or in the Havener Center atrium.
The Chinese Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is an annual celebration that began as a celebration of the New Year in following with the lunisolar calendar. This holiday was a time for people to honor their ancestors as well as household and heavenly gods. Today the holiday is a time to celebrate and connect with family and friends. The celebrations can also include a religious ceremony to honor the original traditions to honor ancestors and deities.
