A candlelight vigil remembering the victims of the recent earthquake in Nepal will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, on the Havener Center lawn at Missouri University of Science and Technology. The event is open to the public.
Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader will speak at the event, along with Dr. Joseph Smith, the Wayne and Gayle Laufer Chair of Energy, who recently returned from a trip to Nepal. A Nepalese student will also speak at the event, which will culminate with a moment of silence.
The event is organized by the student life department and the International Students Club at Missouri S&T.
Last Thursday and Friday, the Missouri S&T campus organized a donation booth for the victims of the natural disaster. So far, the campus has raised nearly $6,000 for the Nepalese people. The public can still donate to support relief efforts by donating to organizations like the Red Cross, UNICEF, Bridge the Gap-Nepal and the International Medical Corps.
