Alkazimi, a Ph.D. student in petroleum engineering at Missouri S&T, will also serve as chair of the association’s International Student Concerns Committee. He was elected to the NAGPS board in November during the association’s annual conference, held at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.
The NAGPS’ mission is to connect graduate and professional students and their governing organizations throughout the United States.
Alkazimi served as president of Missouri S&T’s Council of Graduate Students during the 2012-2013 academic year. He continues to serve on the council as a student representative for the petroleum engineering program. He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Pi Epsilon Tau (the national petroleum engineering honor society), Sigma Gamma Epsilon (earth sciences honor society) and Alpha Epsilon Lambda (the national honor society for graduate and professional school students). He also has served on the Associated Students of the University of Missouri board and as a member of S&T’s Strategic Planning Steering Committee.
