Enrollment at Missouri University of Science and Technology reached an all-time high for a spring semester, according to official fourth-week enrollment figures released today.

“Our total enrollment this spring is 7,152 students, up 2 percent over last year’s numbers,” says Deanne Jackson, Missouri S&T registrar. “This is the highest spring enrollment since 1983, which was 7,091.”

“A comparison of our enrollment in 1983 shows trends that are not unexpected,” says Laura Stoll, vice provost and dean of enrollment management. “We have increased the percentage of distance students, females, and there is more diversity on campus.

“In addition, we have more non-engineering students at Missouri S&T,” Stoll says. “Perhaps the largest increase is in biology, which grew from 76 to 230. And business and information science and technology wasn’t offered in 1983. Now we have more than 300 students in these two majors.”

The spring semester at Missouri S&T began Tuesday, Jan. 22.
