Missouri University of Science and Technology is once again one of the nation’s top public universities, according to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.
Missouri S&T is one of three Missouri universities to make Kiplinger’s list of Best Values in Public Colleges, which is published in the February issue of Kiplinger’s. The report, available online now and on newsstands Jan. 1, 2013, ranks Missouri S&T 96th for out-of-state students and 100th for in-state students. The list ranks public institutions that “combine outstanding education with economic value.”
“We applaud this year’s top 100 schools for their efforts to maintain academic standards while meeting the financial needs of their students,” says Janet Bodnar, editor of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.
“There is a need to keep excellent universities affordable and accessible, and Missouri S&T is doing just that,” says Missouri S&T Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader. “The Kiplinger’s ranking reflects the quality and value of a Missouri S&T education and reinforces our message that investing in an S&T education will pay great dividends in the future.”
Kiplinger’s assesses quality according to a number of measurable standards, including the admission rate, the percentage of freshman students who return for their sophomore year, the student-faculty ratio and the four-year graduation rate. Cost criteria include low sticker prices, abundant financial aid and low average debt at graduation.
This latest ranking comes on the heels of other national recognition for S&T’s value and return on investment.
In August, Missouri S&T was ranked eighth in a Newsweek magazine listing of the 25 Most Affordable Schools for in-state students. Newsweek ranked S&T 24th in affordability for out-of-state students. Among public institutions, Missouri S&T topped the list for out-of-state students and ranked third for affordability for in-state students.
In September, U.S. News & World Report ranked Missouri S&T 46th on its “Great Schools, Great Prices” listing of best deals in the nation for a college education. Among public universities, S&T is seventh in the nation, based on the U.S. News ranking.
