The Community Symphony and Chamber orchestras at Missouri University of Science and Technology will perform a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla. The orchestras will be conducted by Dr. Robert J. Cesario, assistant professor of arts, languages and philosophy.

Tickets are $5 for the public and free for S&T students and youth age 18 and younger. They can be purchased at the door the afternoon of the performance.

The Chamber Orchestra will begin the concert with Carson Turner’s arrangement of a Suite from The Nutcracker, by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It will follow with Folk Tune Air and Fiddler’s Fury, by Alexander Safford.

After a 15-minute intermission, the Symphony Orchestra will play Sunlit Morning Alleluias, by Dr. Timothy Mahr, a professor at St. Olaf College, followed by John Philip Sousa’s unusual suite for orchestra, Three Quotations. This piece, originally written for theater orchestra, was adapted for full symphony orchestra by Mark Rogers. The orchestra will then play Mozart’s 35th Symphony, The Haffner, and conclude the concert with Leroy Anderson’s holiday favorite, “Sleigh Ride.”
