The first Rolla Town Band Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 5, on the Castleman Hall Green, located at 10th and State streets. The band will be conducted by Dr. Robert J. Cesario, assistant professor of arts, languages and philosophy at Missouri University of Science and Technology. The concert is free and open to the public.
“This concert will have a patriotic flair,” says Cesario. “The selections will include Carmen Dragon’s arrangement of America the Beautiful, Armed Forces on Parade, and Clare Grundman’s moving Civil War suite, The Blue and the Gray, as well as a number of marches.”
The band will also play free concerts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 12, and Tuesday, July 17, also on the Castleman Hall Green.
I cannot be there tonight. Will you play Sousa music at the next two, or is this the only Sousa night? Thanks. Anne
Anne,
Dr. Cesario said the band plays “Stars and Stripes Forever” at the end of each concert, and that they’ll likely play another piece or two by Sousa. Thanks for asking.
