Missouri University of Science and Technology will conduct a test of its emergency alert system at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The test will include a text, voice and email alert to students and employees, as well as a test of S&T’s emergency notification whistle. The whistle may also be heard in neighborhoods adjacent to campus.

During the test, students, faculty and staff who are signed up for the university’s mass notification system will receive text, voice and email messages. In addition, the campus community will hear the emergency alert whistle, which is located at the Missouri S&T Power Plant on State Street.

The university’s emergency alert system is in place to notify the campus community in the event of a threat to campus health and safety. These may include weather-related emergencies. The emergency alert whistle is activated only in the event of an active threat on the campus, says Missouri S&T Police Chief Christine Laughlin.

While the whistle is intended only to notify the campus community, Rolla residents living near campus may hear the whistle during the Sept. 7 test.

Students, faculty and staff who are not enrolled in the emergency alert system may sign up online.
