Kathryn N. Rodhouse, a student at Missouri University of Science and Technology, received the IEEE Larry K. Wilson Regional Student Activities Award for her efforts to introduce programming to pre-college students at the 2011 Region 5 Annual Conference of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The conference was held on April 16 in Baton Rouge, La.
Rodhouse, a senior in computer engineering from Kansas City, Mo., also won first place in the Region 5 Student Papers Competition for her undergraduate research. She and Kevin Robison, a senior in electrical engineering from Parkville, Mo., placed second in the Region 5 Student Ethics Competition, where students must prepare and present an analysis of a scenario in professional ethics.
A team of Missouri S&T students placed third in the Region 5 Robotics Competition. Team members include Taylor Clonts, a senior in electrical engineering from St. James, Mo.; Brad Collins, a freshman in electrical engineering from Lombard, Ill.; Max Eisenbraun, a senior in computer science from St. Louis; Tim Johnson, a senior in electrical engineering from Wichita, Kan.; Corbin LeGrand, a senior in computer engineering from Florissant, Mo.; and Blake Lemons, a senior in electrical engineering from Gladstone, Mo.
Also participating in the competition were Abdul Alhowaid, a senior in electrical engineering from Rolla; Chris Bessent, a senior in computer engineering from Battlefield, Mo.; Mike Carte, a senior in computer engineering from Green City, Mo.; and Casey Fischer, a senior in electrical engineering from St. Louis.
States in Region 5 of the IEEE include Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Dr. Steve E. Watkins, professor in electrical and computer engineering at Missouri S&T, coordinated the student events for the region.
