The Missouri University of Science and Technology University and Community Symphony Orchestra and the Missouri S&T Chamber Orchestra will perform their winter holiday concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, in Leach Theater of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla. The orchestra will be conducted by Dr. Robert J. Cesario, assistant professor of arts, languages and philosophy.

Tickets are $5 for the public and free for S&T students and youth age 18 and younger. They can be purchased at the door the night of the performance.

“This concert presents a combination of light and heavy classical music with some seasonal favorites,” says Cesario. “Listeners will hear an early Mozart divertimento, similar to his early symphonies, but lighter in character and designed as entertainment, a few holiday tunes played by both strings and the full orchestra, and a full-blown large romantic symphony, by Antonin Dvorak.”

The Chamber Orchestra will begin the program with Divertimento in D, K. 136, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Other pieces will include Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella, arranged by Percy Hall and Christmas Medley, arranged by Mark Walker.

The Symphony Orchestra will play Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 6, in D and Leroy Anderson’s perennial favorite Sleigh Ride.

A reception in the lobby will follow the concert, sponsored by the S&T chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma.

The orchestras will give two additional concerts in the spring, at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 20, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1.
