An exhibition of works by artists Paula Turney Brewer and Theresa Emmett Allison opens with a 6 p.m. reception on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Missouri University of Science and Technology. The reception will be held in the lobby of Leach Theatre in Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla, Mo.

“Once again the lobby of Leach Theatre will be turned into an art gallery this semester with works from Paula Brewer and Theresa Emmett Allison,” says Dr. James J. Bogan Jr., Curators’ Teaching Professor of art history and film at Missouri S&T. “The Campus Art Committee is delighted to exhibit the work of these two terrific artists who have long been part of the Rolla art scene.”

Both artists are inspired by how light affects their subjects.

“Over the years, I have spent many hours sitting by the creek on our place drawing the water, rocks and plants,” says Brewer. “It struck me how many changes occur during those hours, the light and shadows change constantly. Not one of those moments will ever be repeated.”

“The overriding subject in my work is always the light,” says Allison. “An otherwise dull looking building or simple landscape takes on great beauty when struck by just the right angle or quality of light.”

Following the reception will be a screening of the film “The Moderns,” at 7 p.m., as part of the Free Fall Film Festival.

The artists’ work will be displayed in the lobby of Leach Theatre from September through December.
