The student chapter of Engineers Without Borders at Missouri University of Science and Technology is planning a 5K “Run For Water” on Saturday, March 20, at Queeny Park, 550 Weidman Rd. in Ballwin, Mo.

Engineers Without Borders is a service learning organization that assists people in developing countries. The chapter at Missouri S&T was founded in 2004. The S&T students are currently planning trips to Guatemala, Bolivia and Honduras, where they will help locals with water quality issues.

Approximately 115 Missouri S&T students are involved with EWB. About 40 individuals go on various trips throughout the year. Proceeds from the 5K run will help support travel. Each traveling student is responsible for raising $500 on their own. Corporate sponsors also donate funds.

“We want to get more engineering professionals in St. Louis to be aware of us,” says Grace Harper, a junior in geological engineering.

Registration for the 5K run is $20 (includes a T-shirt) or $30 (includes a running shirt) by March 2. Entry fees go up by $5 after March 2. Register online at www.getmeregistered.com.

Check in starts at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the race, which begins at 10 a.m. Medals will be awarded to the top three participants in various age groups.
