U.S. Army Capt. Joshua E. Steele, a 2002 geological engineering graduate from Missouri S&T, will be honored during a memorial dedication at 1 p.m. Monday, May 11, at the flag in front of Harris Hall on campus. Steele was killed when his humvee was struck with an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan on June 17, 2007.
The memorial will include a 21-gun salute by Missouri S&T cadets and the dedication of a lounge in Harris Hall to Steele.
Steele’s military awards and decorations include two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Ribbons, the Armed Forces Reserve Ribbon with “M” Device, the Army Action Bade, the Arrowhead Certificate of Achievement and the Task Force Trailblazer 14th Engineer Battalion Certificate Achievement Completion.
