New developments in aerospace manufacturing technology will be displayed and discussed during a conference May 26-27 at Missouri University of Science and Technology. The conference is sponsored by the Center for Aerospace Manufacturing Technologies (CAMT) at Missouri S&T.

U.S. Sen. Christopher S. “Kit” Bond, who was instrumental in obtaining research funding for CAMT, will give a special address at the conference. Bond is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, in the Havener Center on campus.

Linda Martinez, director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, will speak about the state’s role in accelerating economic growth through partnerships with research centers and companies at 8:25 a.m. on the same morning.

During the conference, representatives from Missouri S&T, The Boeing Co., General Dynamics and other industry partners will present information about manufacturing technology developments. The theme of the conference is the expansion of the aerospace supply chain through collaborative technology.

Missouri S&T’s Center for Aerospace Manufacturing Technologies was established in Rolla in 2004 through a federal appropriation as one of the nation’s largest initiatives to develop new technologies for the aerospace industry. CAMT researchers develop technology for aircraft fabrication and assembly with an emphasis on direct digital manufacturing, laser materials processing, high-speed machining, and composites manufacturing.

At CAMT, 35 Missouri S&T faculty members and approximately 120 S&T students have been working with engineers from Boeing and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) for the past five years. According to Tim Comerford, CAMT business director, the center invites other companies to join an industrial consortium designed to expand on and leverage the work being done at CAMT.

Tours of CAMT laboratory facilities will be conducted on the afternoon of May 26. Technology results will be presented May 27.
