Miners’ Tyrone Smith heading to Beijing for Olympics

Tyrone Smith performed well on the big stage as a member of the Miner track
and field team. Now he will get the opportunity to compete on the world’s
largest athletic stage.

After earning three All-America awards and several conference championships
during his collegiate career, Smith will now take his show to Beijing, China in
August as a member of Bermuda’s national team that will compete in the
2008 Olympic Games.

Smith will take part in the long jump event that will start on Saturday,
Aug. 16, and conclude with the finals on Monday, Aug. 18. He earned his berth
in the Olympics after finishing third in the long jump competition at the
Central American and Caribbean Championships in Cali, Colombia.
