Missouri University of Science and Technology
students and graduates will have the opportunity to attend one of the largest
career fairs in the Midwest from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. The fair
will also be open to Missouri S&T faculty and staff from 8:30-11 a.m. and
3-5 p.m. on the same
day.
Last February, more than 220 employers
recruited at the fair, which, at the time, was the largest spring career fair
in the university’s history. This year, more than 250 employers have already
registered to attend.
At the fair, recruiters will mainly be looking
for students to fill summer internships, co-ops and full-time
positions.
“We have a good reputation with employers
because the campus community takes a proactive interest in the future
employment of our students,” says Lea-Ann Morton, director of Missouri
S&T’s Career Opportunities
Center.
Missouri S&T was recently cited by the
Princeton Review as having one of the top 20 job placement programs among all
universities in the nation.
In 2006-2007, more than 4,250 on-campus
interviews were conducted. Employers came from 44 states. Forty-six percent of
the employers were from
Missouri.
Among those graduating from Missouri S&T
with bachelor’s degrees, the average starting salary in 2006-2007 was $53,669.
Those with graduate degrees averaged
$62,751.
Missouri S&T enrolled its largest freshman
class in history last fall. The total enrollment is now approximately 6,100
students.
