Nineteen people with ties to the University of
Missouri-Rolla will be honored during the MSM-UMR Alumni Association’s Awards
Banquet Saturday, Oct. 20, at UMR. The awards banquet is held in conjunction
with UMR’s Homecoming
celebration.
The general public is invited to the awards
banquet, which is hosted by the MSM-UMR Alumni Association. The banquet will be
held in St. Pat’s Ballroom A-B of the Havener Center on the UMR campus. The
event begins with a social hour at 5:45 p.m. and dinner is served at 6:30 p.m.

Award recipients
include:
Alumni Achievement Award – Wayne Harvey
earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from UMR in 1969.
Harvey is a senior partner and found of Wayne C. Harvey & Associates in
Clayton, Mo.
Alumni Achievement Award – Steve
Mueller earned a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering
from UMR in 1969. Mueller is a city administrator for the city of Hermann,
Mo.
Alumni Achievement Award – Theodore
Ruppert earned a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering from
UMR in 1952. Ruppert is the retired owner of Loose Leaf Metals, a retired vice
president and banking engineer for Chase Manhattan, and the creator of Varlen
Corp. in St.
Louis.
Alumni Achievement Award – Kevin
Skibiski earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from UMR
in 1975 and a master of science degree in civil engineering in 1976. Skibiski
is an associate of Heideman Associates Inc. in Springfield, Mo.
Robert V. Wolf Alumni Service Award – Doug
Hughes earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from
UMR in 1963. Hughes is a retired research advisor for IIT Research Institute in
Ann Arbor,
Mich.
Robert V. Wolf Alumni Service Award –
Robert Riess earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering
from UMR in 1979. Riess is the president of Sheehan Pipeline Construction Co.
in Tulsa,
Okla.
Robert V. Wolf Alumni Service Award – James
Party earned a bachelor of science degree in geology and geophysics from
UMR in 1978. Party is the exploration manager for Wagner and Brown Ltd. of
Midland,
Texas.
Robert V. Wolf Alumni Service Award – Joan
Woodard earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from UMR in
1973. Woodard is the executive vice president and laboratories deputy director
at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque,
N.M.
Alumni Merit Award – James Foil earned
a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from UMR in 1974. Foil is the
senior vice president of the infrastructure group at Burns & McDonnell
Engineering Co. in Kansas City, Mo.
Alumni Merit Award – Vernon Lawson
earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from UMR in 1948.
Lawson is the senior vice president of Allgeier Martin & Associated Inc. in
Joplin, Mo.
Alumni Merit Award – John Lovitt earned
a master of science degree in computer science from UMR in 1970. Lovitt is a
retired vice president of field operations for IBM/Rational Software in
Pleasanton,
Calif.
Alumni Merit Award – Geoffrey Steinhart
earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering management in 1979.
Steinhart is the vice president of engineering for Anheuser-Busch Companies
Inc.
Distinguished Young Alumnus Award – Fred
Niemeier earned a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering
from UMR in 1995. Niemeier is the director of strategic sourcing for Danaher
Corp. in
Chicago.
Distinguished Young Alumnus Award – Lamont
Orange earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science from UMR in
1993. Orange is the vice president of enterprise security for Charter
Communications in St.
Louis.
Distinguished Young Alumnus Award – Stanley
Schultz earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from UMR
in 1990. Schultz is president of Schultz & Summers Engineering Inc. of
Poplar Bluff,
Mo.
Outstanding Student Advisor Award – Dr.
Badrul Chowdhury is a professor of electrical and computer engineering at
UMR.
Outstanding Student Advisor Award – Dr.
Cesar Mendoza is an associate professor of civil, architectural and
environmental engineering at
UMR.
Outstanding Student Advisor Award – Dr. F.
Scott Miller is an assistant professor of materials science and engineering
and director of the Advanced Materials Characterization Laboratory at
UMR.
Outstanding Student Advisor Award – Mike
Nelson is an assistant professor of psychology at
UMR.

The Alumni Achievement Award is presented in
recognition of outstanding personal achievements by alumni in fields of
academia, business, professions or civic
endeavors.
The Robert V. Wolf Alumni Service Award is
presented in memory of Robert V. Wolf, one of MSM-UMR’s most dedicated alumni.
It recognizes service by alumni and friends to the university and the MSM-UMR
Alumni
Association.
The Alumni Merit Award is presented to
faculty, friends of the campus, or alumni for outstanding achievement or
service to the campus or the MSM-UMR Alumni
Association.
The Distinguished Young Alumnus Award is
presented to alumni 40 years of age or younger who have demonstrated leadership
ability, commitment to the service of others, and a high level of achievement
in his or her chosen career or
profession.
The Outstanding Student Advisor Award honors
four current advisors and recognizes their efforts in assisting students with
academic and career decisions.
