In anticipation of Halloween, mining engineering students at the University
of Missouri-Rolla are again planning to haunt UMR’s Experimental Mine. The
underground mine will be open to the public for scary tours from 6 p.m. to
midnight Oct. 19-20 and Oct. 26-27. On Wednesday, Oct. 31, the Haunted Mine
will be open from 5-10 p.m.
It takes about 10 minutes to go through the mine, which is located about 1.5
miles from campus off Bridge School Road in Rolla. UMR’s Haunted Mine tradition
started in 1997 as a fundraising idea for the mining engineering program.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for ages 10 and under. Visitors who bring
two cans of non-perishable food items will receive a $1 discount. Canned goods
will be donated to the Russell House, a local shelter for abused woman and
children. Those with military identification will also receive $1 off the price
of admission.
Proceeds benefit UMR student organizations. For more information about UMR’s
Haunted Mine, call 573-341-4753.
