Two mine rescue teams from the University of Missouri-Rolla will compete against approximately a dozen industry team during the annual Mine Rescue Contest Sept. 25-27 at UMR’s Experimental Mine.
UMR is the only university in the nation with mine rescue teams. The competition involves a mine disaster simulation that is set up and monitored by the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration. In addition to the rescue simulation, other events include first aid, gas testing and maintaining a complex self-contained breathing apparatus. Written exams are also administered.
