University of Missouri officials recently received several pre-litigation settlement letters addressed to students from the Recording Industry Associaton of America (RIAA). In response to the letters and the increasing number of copyright violation notices over the past year, the university has updated its policies to tighten restrictions on peer-to-peer file sharing.

UMR Chancellor John F. Carney III sent all students a memo outlining the civil and criminal penalties for copyright violation and included links to UMR’s updated policy. The policy can be found online at campus.mst.edu/values/technology.htm.

For more information about the policy, please contact UMR Student Affairs at 573-341-4292 or email stuaff@mst.edu.
