This weekend, the University of Missouri-Rolla Theatre Program will hold auditions for the first two productions of its 2007-2008 season. Auditions are open to the Rolla community and the public is welcome to attend.

Tryouts will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, and from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla.

The first production of the season, which will be presented Sunday, Oct. 21, is a tribute to John Woodfin, former instructor of arts, languages and philosophy at UMR and retired director of the UMR Theatre Program. “A Tribute to the Past 15 Years of UMR Theatre Magic” will consist of a song or a scene from each of the shows Woodfin directed at the university.

“Anyone who has performed in any of these shows who might like to reprise their role for this tribute are especially encouraged to attend,” says John Cimics, assistant professor of theater at UMR and director of the UMR Theatre Program.

The second show is the musical comedy “Snoopy,” the sequel to “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” This delightful show for all ages will be presented Nov. 1-4.

Actors, singers and musical theater performers are needed, says Cimics, and no advance preparation is needed for the acting phase of the audition. Those auditioning for a singing role should bring sheet music for a song they can perform well. An accompanist will be provided.

For more information about the auditions, please contact Cimics at 573-341-4185.
