Outstanding advisors recognized at UMR

Winners of the 2006-2007 Outstanding Academic Advising Awards at the University of Missouri-Rolla were recognized during a ceremony on campus April 25.

The event was hosted by the UMR office of undergraduate and graduate studies. Those selected for the awards are faculty and staff members who advise students as part of their duties. All of the winners were nominated by peers or students. Winners include:

— Dr. Joel Burken, Outstanding Academic Advisor from the School of Engineering. Burken is an associate professor of civil, environmental and architectural engineering.

— Stephanie Fitch, Outstanding Academic Advisor from the School of Management and Information Systems. Fitch is an advisor and instructor in the UMR School of Management and Information Systems.

— Dr. J. Keith Nisbett, Outstanding Freshman Student Advisor. Nisbett is an associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering.

— Shevawn Tipton, Outstanding Student Advisor from the UMR Staff. Tipton is an assistant registrar at UMR.

— Dr. Steve Watkins, Outstanding Transfer Student Advisor. Watkins is a professor of electrical and computer engineering.

— Dr. David J. Westenberg, Outstanding Academic Advisor from the UMR College of Arts and Sciences. Westenberg is an associate professor of biological sciences.
