The University of Missouri-Rolla Jazz Band and UMR Jazz Combo will perform in concert Thursday, Nov. 30, to mark the end of the current semester. The performance begins at 8 p.m. in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets, Rolla.

Admission is free for UMR students and $3 for the general public. Tickets are available at the door and at the Leach Theatre Box Office.

“This will be a fun concert,” says Derek Limback, director of the UMR Jazz Band. “Our performance will include a wide range of music, such as ‘You Lika’ da Juice?,’ a hot salsa by Victor Lopez, ‘Bye Bye Blackbird,’ made famous by Miles Davis, and the theme song from ‘The Incredibles.’”

Other works the group will perform include “My Foolish Heart” and “Stolen Moments,” two Mark Taylor arrangements.

The UMR Jazz Combo will perform original music and arrangements by the musicians.

The objective of the jazz music course is to provide a performance lab environment in the classroom, where the theoretical and technical aspects of jazz music are explored.
