Power was restored Tuesday night (Nov. 14) to the Curtis Laws Wilson Library and the Materials Research Center (Straumanis Hall), the final two buildings on campus that were without power after a power outage hit the campus Sunday night (Nov. 12).

UMR crews restored power to the two buildings at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Much of UMR was without power after one of the campus’ two substation transformers failed at about 7 p.m. Sunday. As a result, classes were cancelled on Monday. Classes resumed on Tuesday after electrical power was restored to most of the campus late Monday night.

The loss of the transformer means that the substation’s ability to supply power to campus has been diminished. All faculty, staff and students are asked to help conserve energy in order to keep from tripping the main circuit breaker.

To help conserve energy during this time, the campus community is encouraged to turn lights off when leaving a room, not run equipment unnecessarily and not use electric space heaters. In laboratories, please do not energize large electric loads without first checking with the UMR physical facilities department, as the distribution breakers for this equipment have been turned off.
