Mining engineering students at the University of Missouri-Rolla are busy making sure UMR’s Experimental Mine is haunted in time for Halloween. The underground mine will be open to the public for scary tours from 6 p.m. to midnight Oct. 20-21 and Oct. 27-28. On Tuesday, Oct. 31, the Haunted Mine will be open from 5-11 p.m.
It takes about 10 minutes to go through the mine, which is located off Bridge School Road in Rolla, about 1.5 miles from campus. UMR’s Haunted Mine tradition started in 1997 as a fundraising idea for the mining engineering program.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for ages 10 and under. Visitors who bring two cans of non-perishable food items will receive a $1 discount. Canned goods will be donated to the Russell House, a local shelter for abused women and children. Those with military identification also receive $1 off.
During the first weekend (Oct. 20-21), visitors can get a $2 discount with a donation of four canned food items. The maximum discount per ticket is $2.
