The staff of public radio station KUMR recently honored an outstanding volunteer with the Louise Roach Volunteer of the Year Award.

Dr. Wayne Huebner, vice provost of research at the University of Missouri-Rolla, was named Volunteer of the Year at the station’s annual membership picnic, held Friday, Sept. 15.

Huebner hosts “TechnoFiles,” a KUMR program that offers an insider’s perspective on UMR research. Huebner, professor of ceramic engineering at UMR, was director of the UMR Graduate Center for Materials Research prior to being named vice provost of research.

Other nominees for the annual award include Bob Phelan, manager of the UMR Student Design Center; Mindy Limback, communications specialist at UMR; and community members Mark Long, Suzanne Paul, Bill Ricker and Richard Cavendar.

KUMR is a 100,000-watt non-commercial, educational station licensed to the Curators of the University of Missouri System and is located at 88.5FM (96.3 FM in Lebanon, Mo., at their translator facility) and online at www.kumr.org.
