The University of Missouri-Rolla will host a performance by stand-up comedian Gallagher, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla. Gallagher is most popularly known for his “Sledge-O-Matic,” a wooden mallet he uses to pulverize items ranging from apples and watermelon to pound cakes and toothpaste. With these pulverized remains, he showers audience members in the “Splash Zone” area near the stage.
Admission is $39.50 for general seats, and $49.50 for those in the “Splash Zone.”
After graduating from the University of South Florida with an engineering degree in 1970, Gallagher, also known as the Wizard of Odd, morphed from an engineering student to a showman, becoming one of the first stand-up comedians to become famous through television. His performances can be seen on Showtime, VH-1 and Comedy Central. Gallagher utilizes several outrageous props, including an adult-size Big-Wheel, a beer gun and the “Sledge-O-Matic.” He also writes his own material, often sharing his observational wit and humorous social commentary.
The event is sponsored by Rolla area radio station KFLW, “The Fort,” located at 98.9 FM. For more information on the Sept. 9 Gallagher performance, contact the UMR Leach Theatre Box Office at 573-341-4219. More information is also available online at www.leachtheatre.org .
