UMR student group co-sponsors 5-K fun run/walk

The UMR TECHS, a peer education group at the University of Missouri-Rolla formed to educate students about personal wellness in college and beyond, will co-host a 5-kilometer race to raise funds for alcohol awareness and health education.

The “Shamrock Run,” a 5-kilometer fun run/walk, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 11, in the parking lot of the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building, 10th Street and Bishop Avenue in Rolla. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

The registration fee is $15 for racers who register by March 3 and $17 for racers who register after March 3. To receive a T-shirt, applications must be received by noon on Wednesday, March 1. Proceeds from the race will benefit health education and alcohol awareness programming at UMR.

Applications are available in Rolla at The Centre, Key Sport Shop, UMR Student Health Services, the UMR TECHS office in the Havener Center and the UMR Student Recreation Center. Applications are also available online at http://campus.mst.edu/wellness. They can be dropped off or mailed to Student Health Services, located at 1200 N. Pine St. in Rolla.

Other race sponsors include Mullally Distributing, Key Sport Shop, Investment Realty, Briggs and Stratton, and Partners in Prevention, a statewide coalition of representatives from Missouri’s publicly funded universities that addresses alcohol and substance abuse on college campuses.
