The University of Missouri-Rolla Jazz Bands will perform in concert Friday, Dec. 9, to mark the end of the current semester. The performance, which is free and open to the public, begins at 8 p.m. in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets, Rolla.
For students in the jazz music class at UMR, each semester culminates with a concert, says Derek Limback, director of the UMR Jazz Ensemble.
The group will perform a variety of works, including “All of Me,” as played by Count Basie, “Groove Merchant,” by Thad Jones, and “Joy Spring,” arranged by Limback.
The UMR Jazz Combo will follow with standards including “A Night in Tunisia” and “Recordame,” as well as original music by Limback.
The objective of the jazz music course is to provide a performance lab environment in the classroom, where the theoretical and technical aspects of jazz music are explored.
