Ceramic engineering students at the UMR will compete in several competitions at the American Ceramic Society’s annual meeting April 18-21 in Indianapolis, Ind.

UMR students will participate in the mug drop and glass putter and ball competitions against students from other universities around the United States.

For the mug drop competition, each team creates ceramic mugs that are tested by dropping them on a concrete floor from increasing heights. Last year, UMR had the top two winning entries. In the putting competition, each team produces ceramic golf putters and balls and the team that can putt its ball closest to a hole wins. Last year, the UMR team was recognized for its design of an "all-glass putter." Both events require the students to design and manufacture structurally sound and functional ceramic components.
