S&T unveils active learning classroom

Thanks to faculty know-how supported by S&T benefactors, students are learning the basics of project management in an environment that eschews a traditional classroom aesthetic for a space that inspires collaboration. Designed in accordance with the principles of active learning, the Fritzmeyer Family Active Learning Classroom, located in Room 104 of the Engineering Management Building, opened at the beginning of the fall 2023 semester.

Fighting fire dispatcher burnout

Emergency response dispatchers are the first people who receive calls about active fires. These workers need to quickly make decisions, send responses and coordinate logistics. But the job doesn’t end there for wildfires, because there may be a need for air tankers and helicopters, and then the dispatchers will need to relay ground information, such as wind direction, to the firefighters on the scene.

Missouri S&T mourns the death of benefactor June Kummer

June Marie Kummer, who worked alongside her late husband and Missouri S&T graduate Fred S. Kummer to build a general contracting business into the world’s largest design-build firm for health care and financial facilities, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2024, in St. Louis. She was 93.

James D. Sterling named vice provost and founding dean of Missouri S&T’s Kummer College

Dr. James D. Sterling, whose teaching and research interests include applied entrepreneurship and bioengineering, has been named vice provost and founding dean of the Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Sterling is a professor in the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences at the Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) in Claremont, California, which is a member of the Claremont University Consortium.
