Fulbright Scholar to conduct research on campus

Dr. Zaal Machavariani, an associate professor of physics at Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi, Georgia, has been awarded a 2007-2008 Fulbright Scholar grant to do research relevant to fusion as a sustainable energy source at the University of Missouri-Rolla campus. UMR will become Missouri University of Science and Technology on Jan. 1, 2008.

UMR interdisciplinary engineering department to get new chair

Dr. Bonnie Bachman, a senior director at Flextronics International, will become the new chair of the interdisciplinary engineering department at the University of Missouri-Rolla effective Dec. 20. Dr. Ralph E. Flori, associate professor of interdisciplinary engineering, is serving as interim chair until Bachman arrives. Flori succeeds Dr. Ron Fannin, who has retired.
