UMR co-inventor of cancer-fighting glass beads inducted into National Academy of Engineering

Dr. Delbert Day, Curators’ Professor emeritus of ceramic engineering in the materials science and engineering department at UMR, was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in October. He is the first person in the history of the University of Missouri system to have achieved this honor.

UMR student recognized for laser forming research

Jack Pennuto Jr. of Louisville, Ky., a graduate student in mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla, recently received the "Best Student Paper Award" at the 23rd International Congress on Applications of Lasers and Electro-Optics held in San Francisco. Pennuto’s paper will appear in an upcoming edition of the Journal of Laser Applications.

UMR researcher receives award for earthquake-related work

Dave Hoffman, a research engineer at UMR, recently received the Otto Nuttli Award from the St. Louis Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The award is named for the late Otto Nuttli, a former professor of seismology at St. Louis University, who was the reigning expert on the New Madrid Seismic Zone.
