Dr. Stewart Gillies, Union Pacific Rocky Mountain Energy Mining Professor at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has been named interim director of the university’s Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center. Gillies takes over for Dr. David A. Summers, Curators’ Professor of mining and nuclear engineering at Missouri S&T, who has served in the position for more than 30 years.

Dr. Yinfa Ma, Curators’ Teaching professor of chemistry at Missouri University of Science and Technology, is the recipient of the 2008 American Chemical Society Division of Analytical Chemistry’s J. Calvin Giddings Award for Excellence in Education. Ma accepted the award during the 236th ACS national meeting held this fall in Philadelphia.

Perrin Roller of Spring, Texas, vice president for well engineering for Devon Energy Corp., was elected president of the Miner Alumni Association at Missouri University of Science and Technology during the university’s Homecoming celebration Oct. 19. He takes over for Darlene Ramsay, director of advancement services at Missouri S&T and Miner Alumni Association past president.
