Theater students from Missouri University of Science and Technology’s arts, languages, and philosophy department will perform Race’s End, a new play written specifically for Missouri S&T.

Performances of Race’s End will be held at 7 p.m. Apr. 16-18 with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Apr. 19 at Leach Theatre in Castleman Hall, located on the Missouri S&T campus at the corner of 10th and Main streets in Rolla.

Race’s End is a new sci-fi epic set in a fractured future divided into territories where technology is tightly controlled. Avery flees across borders searching for her closest friend Race, who’s disappeared after unlocking a forbidden game that points toward something beyond the known world.

The play, written by assistant professor Taylor Gruenloh, is a result of research conducted at Oxford University as part of the Manchester Harris Summer Research Institute, made possible by the dean’s office in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education.

“This play is part Hunger Games, part Odyssey, part Fallout, part Wall-E, it’s got all the mechanics of a sci-fi journey, where the main character is forced on an adventure,” says Taylor Gruenloh. “This is going to be our most technology-heavy show yet. We’re using a large amount of projections, we have an epic sound component, and the lighting design is going to be pretty complicated. Which is all to amplify the characters, and let audiences celebrate our student actors, who always give great performances.”

Tickets for Race’s End are $10 for the public and $5 for Missouri S&T students with a valid S&T ID. The show contains some mature content and is recommended for audiences ages 14 and over.

Tickets can be purchased 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday from the Leach Theatre Box Office, located inside the main entrance to Castleman Hall, facing 10th Street. Tickets can also be purchased online at minertix.universitytickets.com or by calling 573-341-4219. Service fees may apply to tickets purchased online.
