Dr. Larry Gragg, university historian and a Curator’s Distinguished Teaching Professor emeritus of history and political science at Missouri University of Science and Technology, will give a talk at the Curtis Laws Wilson Library this October as part of Archives Month. Gragg’s talk will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21.

His talk, titled “Desegregation to Integration at the Missouri School of Mines and the University of Missouri, 1950-1963” will focus on the slow process of moving from desegregating the School of Mines and the University of Missouri in 1950 to the integration of Black students into the culture of both institutions.

The event is free and open to the public; parking on campus is free after 4:30 p.m. The talk will also be streamed on Zoom (register at shsmo.org/calendar) and Facebook Live (view at facebook.com/MissouriSandTArchives).

Gragg began teaching at Missouri S&T in 1977 and chaired the history and political science department for 17 years. He has authored 10 books, including Forged in Gold: Missouri S&T’s First 150 Years.

This event is part of “Desegregation in the Miner Nation: 75th Anniversary of Desegregation in Higher Education.” An exhibit will be displayed through Friday, Oct. 31, on the second floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library. For a guide to the exhibit, visit libguides.mst.edu/desegregation.
