Dr. Gary Kremer, executive director of the State Historical Society of Missouri, will give a talk at the Curtis Laws Wilson Library at Missouri S&T this October as part of Archives Month.

His talk, titled “Desegregation of Missouri’s Public Schools in the Wake of Brown v.  Board of Education,” will focus on the challenges posed by efforts to desegregate, including both white and Black resistance to desegregation and integration. He will discuss the fears and concerns of students, families and teachers across Missouri following the 1954 Brown vs. the Board of Education ruling.

Kremer’s talk will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14. The event is free and open to the public; parking on campus is free after 4:30 p.m. The talk will also be streamed on Zoom (register at shsmo.org/calendar) and Facebook Live (view at facebook.com/MissouriSandTArchives).

Kremer is the executive director, secretary and librarian of the State Historical Society of Missouri. He has written, cowritten and coedited 12 books. Before joining the society as executive director in 2004, Kremer taught history at William Woods University and Lincoln University, as well as serving as the state archivist of Missouri from 1987 to 1991.

This event is part of “Desegregation in the Miner Nation: 75th Anniversary of Desegregation in Higher Education.” An exhibit will be displayed through Friday, Oct. 31, on the second floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library. For a guide to the exhibit, visit libguides.mst.edu/desegregation.
