A dedication ceremony for the new Welcome Center at Missouri S&T will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3. The campus community and the public are invited to the event.

The 32,000-square-foot facility is located in the heart of the 10-acre Havener Arrival Complex, providing an inviting campus experience to future students and their families. The center is located directly east of the Innovation Lab and south of Harris Hall.

“This new Welcome Center will serve as our front door to the university,” says Kate Drowne, assistant provost for faculty affairs, and chair of the Welcome Center Steering Committee. “It represents our commitment to ensuring every visitor understands the unique value and opportunities that S&T offers.”

The Welcome Center will feature interactive exhibits to highlight the Miner experience and S&T’s programs. It is home to enrollment management staff and services for prospective students and their families.

“The Welcome Center is more than just a building — it’s a symbol of S&T’s confidence in our future and our commitment to sharing our stories with the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers,” Drowne says. “This facility will help us attract the brightest minds who will go on to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges, not just through STEM disciplines, but through the full range of our academic offerings at S&T.”

Speaking at the ceremony will be Mun Choi, president of the University of Missouri; Mo Dehghani, Missouri S&T chancellor; Kathy Walker, alumna and chair of the Kummer Missouri S&T Board of Directors; Alysha O’Neil, vice chancellor of finance and operations; and Abby Trachsel, a senior in biochemical engineering at S&T.

Guided tours of the facility will follow the ceremony, along with refreshments and a cash bar. Event parking will be available in the subsurface garage at the Havener Arrival Complex entrance and in the Castleman Hall parking lot.

  • Congratulations from a 6 August 1966 Rolla BSCE, a native of PB MO, now retired in Bavaria, Germany with his great wife of 58 years. My great Rolla education enabled me to work in Germany as an Army Lieutenant, then in Missouri, Puerto Rico, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Tehran, Amman, Frankfurt, Fuerth (adjacent to Nuernburg), Augusburg, a, and Grafenwoehr, Germany. What a great experience! My wife of 58 years, whom I married when I was an Army Lt, has accompanied me everywhere.
Managed to earn an MSBA when it was offered in Frankfurt through the Army Corps of Engineers by the U of Md on site professors.
