Dr. David Enke, professor of engineering management and systems engineering (EMSE), has been named associate dean of the Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development at Missouri S&T.
“We are very grateful for his service as interim associate dean for nearly a year,” says founding dean of the Kummer College Dr. Jim Sterling. “With the excitement of growth and emergence of new Kummer College opportunities, David will also work closely on new initiatives that emerge from our current strategic planning activity for the college.”
In this role, Enke will provide leadership for research and academic affairs while working with faculty and department chairs to ensure development and application of Kummer College policies and procedures.
“I am honored and excited to continue working with Dean Sterling and the Kummer College faculty and staff as we promote the academic, research and entrepreneurial growth of the college in support of both our students and the economic development of the region.”
Enke served on the S&T faculty from 2000 to 2007, and returned in 2012 as professor and chair of the EMSE department. After returning to full-time teaching, Enke was appointed interim department chair in July 2022, a role that is now filled by Dr. Amuary Lendasse. For nearly a year, Enke was interim associate dean of Kummer College.
Enke has been honored with an award for best journal article from Engineering Management Journal, and is the recipient of seven research conference paper awards and 12 campus awards for teaching excellence. He has published 38 journal articles, three book chapters and over 90 conference proceedings. He has also co-edited five editions of the book Intelligent Engineering Systems Through Artificial Neural Networks. He is the founder of the Laboratory for Investment and Financial Engineering and a member of the Intelligent Systems Center at S&T. He is an area editor focusing on computational intelligence and risk management for the journal The Engineering Economist.
Enke earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Missouri S&T in 1990. He earned master’s and doctorate degrees in engineering management from S&T in 1994 and 1997, respectively. He worked for McDonnell Douglas Corp. (now Boeing) for six years prior to starting his graduate studies.
