Want to give a TEDx talk? Get tips from local speaker coach on April 11

Have you ever considered connecting with and inspiring your local community by giving a TEDx talk? Join TEDxMissouri S&T speaker coach Lisa Pavia-Higel for a session on what makes a great TEDx Talk at 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, online via Zoom. The Zoom link is available on the Community Connect website, community.mst.edu. The session is free and open to the public; anyone interested in learning tips about how to submit a great speaker application is encouraged to attend.

Insights from judges, previous speaker highlights, and other topics will be discussed. Get your questions answered and receive feedback on your ideas.

Higel is an assistant teaching professor of English and technical communication at Missouri S&T. She has taught college courses in communications, public speaking and media literacy for more than 15 years. Her passions are primarily in helping students develop their creative and professional voice so they can be successful wherever their life takes them. 

Apply to speak at Missouri S&T’s TEDx event

TEDxMissouri S&T 2025 is now accepting speaker applications for its show Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Leach Theatre on the Missouri S&T campus. Applications can be made online at tedxmst.com and will be accepted until Sunday, April 27. Applicants must summarize their proposed topic and explain why it is worth sharing, and why they want to be a TEDx speaker.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TED is a nonprofit organization with the slogan “Ideas Change Everything” that shares media and supports educational initiatives. TED is an acronym for technology, entertainment and design. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark discussion and connection. All presentations are recorded and shared through TEDx media.
