Missouri S&T’s St. Pat’s Board donated $10,168 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief in the Phelps County area following tornadoes on Friday, March 14. Abigail Hall, president of the St. Pat’s Board and a senior in chemical engineering from Hamel, Illinois, presented the cash donation to Rebecca Gordon, executive director of Central and Northern Missouri for the Red Cross, Tuesday, March 18, at First Baptist Church in Rolla. The church is serving as the hub for Red Cross disaster relief efforts in Phelps County.
Hall, who also portrayed St. Patrick for the St. Pat’s festivities, was accompanied by St. Pat’s Board leaders and S&T student volunteers who assisted the Red Cross with recovery efforts. The money was raised from merchandise sales, including the popular St. Pat’s sweatshirts, and concert ticket sales.
The St. Pat’s Board is a recognized student organization at Missouri S&T. The student group hosts the “Best Ever” St. Pat’s celebration annually. The celebration was started in 1908, and the board was created in 1930 to lead event planning.
