Robinson’s novels include the internationally bestselling “Mars” trilogy, and more recently Red Moon, New York 2140, and The Ministry for the Future. Many of his stories focus on ecological themes and moral progress, with protagonists often having job titles such as diplomat, scientist or scholar.

“Stan is, without doubt, one of the superstars of science fiction. His “Mars” trilogy has shaped how my generation imagined Mars and the possibility of human colonization.” says Dr. Margret Grebowicz, the Maxwell C. Weiner Distinguished Professor of Humanities and Professor of Philosophy at Missouri S&T and coordinator of Robinson’s visit to campus. “I am so excited to have him visit our students and community here in Rolla and I hope it inspires us all in some way – whether that is to start writing, start thinking on a planetary scale or to simply start approaching problems in a new way.”

Robinson, who The New Yorker called “one of the best living science-fiction writers,” often focuses his novels’ plots on international treaties, financial systems and sustainable ways of life through terraforming other planets. His novels are known for their meticulous and well communicated scientific research, says Grebowicz.

Robinson was part of the U.S. National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Artists and Writers’ Program in 1995 and 2016, and a featured speaker at COP-26 in Glasgow, as a guest of the United Kingdom government and the United Nations. His works have been translated into 29 languages, and won numerous awards, including the Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy awards. In 2016, asteroid 72432 was named “Kimrobinson” in honor of him.
