Dr. John J. Myers, a professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering at Missouri S&T, was named the 2025 Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) Educator of the Year during the organization’s annual convention in early February in Indianapolis.

“I can’t express enough how grateful I am to have received this recognition. So many past recipients I consider among the titans of concrete engineering education,” says Myers, who is also director of the Missouri Center for Transportation Innovation. “Receiving this honor reinforces how great of a decision I made more than a quarter century ago when I came to Rolla as an S&T faculty member. I am mindful of how successes like this would not be possible without a strong support system and outstanding, hardworking students, which are our legacy as a university.”

The PCI website notes the award goes to “an educator who has made a singular yet truly exceptional contribution to education or a contribution to the educational mission of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute.” Myers has been involved with PCI since he was a graduate student in 1997, and he has served on several of the institution’s committees.

This award marks a trifecta of sorts for Myers, as he has now received national educator awards from three major societies related to his work. In 2006, he was awarded the American Concrete Institute Walter P. Moore Jr. Faculty Achievement Award, and in 2016, he received the Architectural Engineering Institute Outstanding Educator Award.

Myers joined Missouri S&T’s faculty in 1999 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2005 and professor in 2013. He served as an associate dean for S&T’s College of Engineering and Computing from 2015-19 and acting dean in 2016. In 2023, he took the helm as director of the Missouri Center for Transportation Innovation .

Prior to joining S&T, Myers worked as a structural design and project engineer for over a decade.

Throughout his career, he has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and hundreds more conference papers and technical reports.

Myers is a fellow of six technical societies, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Concrete Institute, the International Institute for FRP in Construction, the International Association for Advanced Materials, The Masonry Society and VEST. He earned a Ph.D. and master’s degree in civil engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from The Pennsylvania State University.
