Barry Robbins, managing partner with Silver Bear Solutions, in Atlanta, has been named chief information officer (CIO) at Missouri S&T. He will join S&T on May 1.

“Barry’s extensive expertise in strategic leadership and his research in IT innovation will steer S&T’s technology advancement,” says Missouri S&T Chancellor Mo Dehghani. “I am pleased to have Barry join us here in Rolla and I look forward to working with him to achieve our shared vision for S&T.”

Robbins succeeds Perry Koob, acting chief information officer.

Robbins has national and international experience in IT organizations that deal with fintech, health care, finance, retail, manufacturing and government. His experience includes serving as a leader for Shaw Industries, Home Depot, the City of Charlotte in North Carolina, and IBM.

Robbins believes his prior leadership experience allows him to bring diverse perspectives to the mission of Missouri S&T.

“I am honored to join Missouri S&T and grateful for the opportunity to put my experience to work on behalf of the higher education community,” says Robbins. “I look forward to learning from S&T’s students, faculty, and staff as we pair education and research to make a difference in the lives of those in our communities and world.”

Robbins says that he enjoys living by a “give-back ethos,” demonstrated by mentoring students from Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University, and the non-profit organization Year Up. In addition, he has served as a consultant to community non-profits, helping them fulfill their mission to transform lives.

Robbins is completing a Ph.D. in business administration in information systems, based on his research on innovation, from Kennesaw State University, which he expects to receive in 2024. He earned an MBA from Wake Forest University and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Florida State University. His certifications include AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Certified Six Sigma Green Belt, and Project Management Professional from the Project Management Institute.
