Missouri S&T bands to present spring concert featuring ‘The Divine Comedy’

The Missouri S&T Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony will present its spring concert in April.

The concert will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, located at 10th and Main streets in Rolla. The concert will feature performances by the Missouri S&T Symphonic Band, directed by David Cress, lecturer in music, and the University Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. David Samson, assistant professor of music.

Tickets are $5 for general admission and free for S&T students and children under age 18. Tickets can be purchased at the Leach Theatre Box Office, inside the 10th Street entrance. The box office is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before any ticketed performance.

The concert will begin with the Symphonic Band performing, “Gloriana” by Jay Bocook, “Every Morning New” by David Holsinger and Robert Jager’s “Esprit de Corps.” The Wind Symphony will conclude the concert with a performance of Robert W. Smith’s “Symphony No. 1: The Divine Comedy.” The symphony, a programmatic work based on Dante Alighieri’s epic poem, contains four movements, “The Inferno,” “Purgatorio,” “The Ascension” and “Paradiso.”
